CIVIC OUTFITTERS SINCE 1995

Civic Headwear

Michaels Civic Hats are made for ceremonial purposes.

All of our Civic headwear are hand crafted in our workshop in Burbage.

We use the finest materials and traditional skills to manufacture high quality hats for our Civic customers. We have, however, introduced modern materials to our process to enable us to make the hats both lighter and stronger.

As a UK manufacturer of unique and traditional headwear, Michaels has the capability and experience to manufacture high quality Bicorns & Tricorns that are made to measure and bespoke for the wearer.

We are able to produce the following:

  • Lord Mayor Tricorns
  • Mayor Bicorns
  • Mayor Tricorns
  • Macebearer Top Hats
  • Honorary Aldermen Hats
  • Honorary Freemen Hats
  • Town Crier Tricorns
  • Councillor Bicorns & Tricorns
  • Councillor Tudor Bonnets

Estd 1995

Bicorns and Tricorns have been worn since 17th Century.

Traditionally the Lord Mayors’ Hat is a Tricorn Hat with Ostrich plume feathers. The Mayor’s black hat is trimmed with gold, the Deputy Mayor’s with silver and councillors have black trim.

Bicorns, also known as “Cocked Hats” and Tricorns have been worn since 17th Century. The Mayoral hat changes shape depending on the gender of the Mayor. If the Mayor is female a tricorn hat is worn, and if the Mayor is male, a bicorn hat is worn.

Just purchased fabulous new Feathers for my Tricorn purchased from Michaels , excellent service and value for money and ideal for any Council looking to appoint a Town Crier and fit them out ready for the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations this year.

On behalf of the Guild of Mace-Bearers please accept my sincerest thanks for attending this year’s Conference and Training in Southend-on-Sea. It was fantastic to get an in depth understanding of the Care of Civic Robes & Regalia and all the delegates went away armed with information that will assist them and their local Authorities.
